BarnBuys is designed to help users discover local farm stands and fresh food sources. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we use it, how it may be shared, and the choices available to you when you use the BarnBuys website or mobile application.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use BarnBuys, we may collect:

• Account information, such as your name, email address, profile photo, and sign-in details.
• Contact-form information, such as your name, email address, message, and the type of request you submit.
• Farm submission or ownership-claim information, such as a farm or stand name, approximate location, available products, photographs, business contact information, operating hours, website links, descriptions, your connection to the listing, and supporting details you choose to provide.
• Location information when you allow the app to access your device location.
• App activity, such as farms submitted, saved, or marked as visited.
• Reports and moderation information, such as reports about farm listings, reasons for a report, and information used to review submissions, ownership claims, or reported content.
• Basic technical and security information, which may include your IP address, browser or device type, app version, and information used to detect spam, fraud, security threats, or misuse.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate and improve BarnBuys, provide account and map features, display nearby farm stands, calculate approximate distances, provide route previews, process farm submissions, review ownership claims, respond to questions, correct listings, moderate photographs and other content, investigate reports, prevent abuse, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations.

Submitting a contact request does not automatically subscribe you to marketing emails. If BarnBuys offers promotional communications in the future, any required consent and unsubscribe options will be provided separately.

Location Data

With your permission, the app may use your device location to show nearby farm stands, centre the map, calculate your approximate distance from a farm stand, provide route previews within BarnBuys, or support other location-based features.

When you choose to start navigation, BarnBuys may provide the selected farm stand's destination coordinates and name to Apple Maps or another supported mapping application. The third-party mapping provider may process information according to its own privacy policy.

You may turn off location access through your device settings, although some features may not work as intended. BarnBuys does not sell location data.

Farm Stand Submissions

If you submit farm stand information, some listing details may become publicly visible after review. Public information may include the stand name, approximate location, products, photographs, business contact information, operating hours, website links, and descriptions.

Do not include private personal information in a public listing unless you have the authority and permission to provide it.

Farm Photos

Users may submit photographs for review in connection with a farm stand submission or existing farm listing. Approved photographs may become publicly visible within BarnBuys.

Verified farm owners and BarnBuys administrators may upload, update, or remove photographs associated with approved farm listings. Photographs added directly by verified owners or administrators may be published without the same review process used for photographs submitted by regular users.

BarnBuys may review, reject, remove, or restrict photographs that appear inaccurate, misleading, inappropriate, unlawful, infringing, unsafe, or unrelated to the listing.

Farm Stand Listings

BarnBuys lists farm stands and agricultural retail locations for informational purposes. Information may be submitted by users, farm operators, administrators, or obtained from publicly available sources.

Property owners and farm operators may request updates, corrections, ownership verification, or removal of listings by contacting support@barnbuys.ca .

Public Information

Information that you choose to submit for publication may be visible to other users. This may include farm listing details, photographs, owner-provided business information, and other content associated with a public farm stand listing.

Avoid submitting personal information that is not necessary for the listing or that you are not authorized to make public.

Service Providers and Processing Outside Canada

We may use service providers to operate BarnBuys. These may include Firebase or Google services for app hosting, database, storage, authentication, and account features; Cloudflare for website hosting, security, and contact-form processing; Resend for email delivery; and Apple Maps or other supported mapping services when you request navigation.

These providers process information on our behalf or provide services that you choose to use. They may process or store information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws.

How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information:

• With service providers that help us operate, secure, host, maintain, and support BarnBuys.
• When you ask us to publish a farm listing, photograph, or other public content.
• With a mapping provider when you choose to open directions or navigation in that provider's application.
• When required by law or a valid legal process.
• When reasonably necessary to investigate misuse, prevent fraud, protect security, enforce our Terms of Use, or protect BarnBuys, our users, farm operators, or the public.

Retention and Safeguards

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. These purposes may include responding to requests, operating user accounts, reviewing submissions or claims, moderating content, maintaining appropriate records, resolving disputes, investigating reports, preventing abuse, and meeting legal obligations.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and why it was collected. Some information may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your Choices and Privacy Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational requirements. You may also withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.

You may manage device permissions, including location, camera, and photo-library access, through your device settings. Disabling a permission may prevent certain features from operating.

You may request correction or removal of farm listing information or photographs by contacting BarnBuys. We may need to verify your identity or connection to the listing before completing a request.

Account Deletion

Registered users may request account deletion through the BarnBuys app or by contacting support. Deleting an account may remove or anonymize associated personal information, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, and operational requirements.

Public farm listing content may be retained when necessary to maintain an accurate public listing, but personal information associated with the former account will be handled according to this policy.

Children's Privacy

BarnBuys is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children who are not legally able to consent to its collection and use. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact us so we can review and address the matter.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as BarnBuys develops. The effective date at the top of this page will show when the policy was most recently revised.

Material changes may also be communicated through the website, app, or another appropriate method.
